Make sure the VM is fully shut down, then right click it in the manager UI. Try automounting the shared folder in the VMs settings and add your user to the vboxsf group in the Ubuntu guest, you should then find the shared folder in the Ubuntu /media folder. I have an auto-mount folder that maps to my D: drive on the host which I can access using sudo ls /media/sf_D_DRIVE - however, even when my user (ross) is a member of the vboxsf group I get a permission denied error when attempting to explore it. But my current non-root user is not a member of vboxsf user group. Obviously the owner of the share folder is root and the group it belongs to is vboxsf. So I tried to look at its permission in terminal: cd /media/ ls -al drwxrwx- 1 root vboxsf sfshare.

I'm running Ubuntu 11.04 (guest) on Windows 7 (host) with the guest additions installed. The share folder was mounted at /media/sfshare in my Ubuntu guest.
